Art

We are strong believers in the impact of Art and Design at Wellsprings Primary School as part of a broad and balanced curriculum. It provides children with opportunities to develop and extend skills to express their individual interests and ideas, whilst also contributing to the development of the child emotionally, aesthetically, spiritually, intellectually and socially.

High quality art education equips children with the skills to explore, experiment, create and invent their own work of art whilst engaging, inspiring and challenging pupils.

As artists, children should be able to critically evaluate their work and the work of others, taking influence from well-known artists and adapting their work accordingly. As their skill set progresses, they should understand how art has changed their landscape, culture and history.

Our art curriculum has been reviewed in 2022-23 and redesigned to more closely align to a chosen artist in each key phase across the academic year. In September 2023 we held an arts week, with Magic Lantern providing workshops to the whole school linked to our Take One picture project. We were also thrilled to link it to a Take One Poem theme with Berlie Doherty (world famous author) reading her poem, That Stormy Night aloud to the whole school. It was an inspirational week! We also exhibited all our work (including handwriting winners of Berlie’s poem), and parents/carers came to view our fantastic work.

IN 2024, we linked our Big Draw project to the FairTrade fortnight producing products about or themed to food. Many classes also focused on a certain STYLE of art- doodling. Mr Doodle is a famous artist who has exhibited in Bath 2024, and much of the artwork created by KS2, made their own interpretation. MR DOODLE + FAIRTRADE + FOOD = GENIUS!

Our Art exhibitions have become legendary!

We have held an art exhibition in our school every other year.  Children, staff and parents/carers have all contributed to make the event much talked about around our community!

Please see the gallery below for some examples of our school’s artwork.
