EYFS
Early Years Foundation Stage at Wellsprings
The curriculum that we teach in the Foundation Stage Unit meets the requirements set out in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Framework.
Our curriculum planning aims to support children to achieve the Early Learning Goals (ELGs) through developing children’s knowledge, skills and experiences, as set out in our area overviews below.
The EYFS is built on guiding principles which inform our work with the children. These are:
A Unique Child – every child is a competent learner from birth who can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured
Positive Relationships – children learn to be strong and independent from a base of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person.
Enabling Environments – the environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning.
Importance of Play
In Squirrels, play is an integral part of our learning. Play, carefully balanced with adult-led sessions and continuous provision, ensures that the children reach their full potential and acquire a love of learning.
Continuous Provision
All the children have opportunities during the mornings and the afternoons to come together to participate in continuous provision, continuing their learning through child initiated play. Children apply and consolidate their new skills. The activities on offer are linked to all 7 areas of the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage):
3 Prime areas
Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
Communication and Language
Physical Development
4 Specific areas
