Modern Foreign Languages (MFL)

At Wellsprings, we believe that learning a Modern Foreign Language provides a valuable educational, social and cultural experience for our pupils.  We want our pupils to develop a passion and curiosity for languages, and through that an awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world. We aim to develop positive attitudes to other languages and cultures.

Through our KS2 French programme, children will develop communication and literacy skills that lay the foundation for future language learning. They will develop linguistic competence, extend their knowledge of how language works and explore differences and similarities with English.

Our MFL teaching and learning is underpinned by assumptions about the aims and purposes of teaching MFL at Key Stage 2 as expressed in the National Curriculum Programme of Study and contributes to our school vision as we aim to develop…

…curiosity about language and how it works.

…speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, drawing upon the grammatical structures that they have learnt.

…the ability to appreciate and respond to spoken and written language from a variety of authentic sources.

…confidence by ensuring success is part of the MFL ethos and lay the foundations for learning languages into KS3 and beyond.
